David Bowie.....Is - V&A, London, 08/08/13
I'm a massive 1970s glam rock fan, and a certain Mr 'David Bowie' has been a constant in my life ever since I was little kid getting down to 'Jean Genie' in the local youth club disco.
With a sprinkling of glitter on my face, and in my hair.
Yeah! sometimes we've become distant over the years, especially during the likes of 'Tin Machine' & the 'Glass Spider' misjudgements. But I always come back............... in truth, I've never really been away.
I wasn't going to miss my chance to be in the same room, and gaze upon (and maybe touch) those iconic artefacts, even at the expense of missing out on a rare 'Walter Lure' gig. Which was happening only two days later in the same city, but as hard as I tried, I couldn't make the two events line up. It just wasn't meant to be, oh well.
This amazing exhibition ended its extensive run today (11.8.13), and it proved to be the biggest & probably the most lucrative draw in the history of the V&A. And I'm not surprised in the slightest, as it was a once in a lifetime experience.
Those unforgettable costumed mannequins marking almost every era of Dame David's career, the massive video walled room which had everyone singing 'All The Young Dudes' in unison, and that one particular icon lying in state inside a glass topped coffin / display were my highlights.
The sheer amount of rare & previously unseen memorabillia on show here was breathtaking.
And for those of you who didn't get the chance to bask in the glory of Bowie's triumph in London, there's a guided tour of the exhibition being screened in over 200 cinema's nationwide simultaneously for one performance later this week, (19.00pm, QFT, 13.8.13.).
There's nothing quite like the real thing, but at this moment in time "this is as good as it's going to get".
Do not miss this possibly last opportunity to view a vital piece of your history, this tuesday evening.
Wherever you are!
