Faster Pussycat live @ Voodoo, Belfast, 07/07/13
'Addiction For Destruction' cancelled, we
missed 'Stone Trigger', and 'The Art' just didn't materialise.
But we got a very professional performance from a local 80's style classic rock band called 'Maverick' who had brought their rowdy fanbase with them, and shredded their way through an eight song set of original tunes.
I'm not a metalhead, so this particular brand of (cock!!!) rock is not really to my 'Steel Panther' sensibilities, but there's no denying that these guy's can really play, and they certainly know how to work a stage.
Good band, one to watch in metal / rock circles for the future.
After this gig was cancelled first time round back in January, I had my doubts that the 'Pussycat' were ever going to play in Belfast.
But here we are on a blazing hot July summers day, and 'Faster Pussycat' have most certainly arrived in town.
Early reports had the band sinking chilli vodka shots in local hostelries, while chatting to anyone and everyone.
I'd also heard a whisper that they had soundchecked with a blazing rendition of the Ramones classic 'Pet Cemetery', so things were defintely looking good for tonights show.
In a freak incident we actually got to meet all the band as they walked through the crowd to the stage, I had my back turned and I was blocking their route. But there was no fuck off and clear the way from a hired gorilla, and defintely no rock star attitude from these guy's, it was all please and thank you' which was a bit of a shock to the system when I realised who it was wanting to pass by me.
Surprisingly well mannered and very approachable, some of the members may have been out of it, but total respect goes out to the 'Pussycat' for their not cliched rock'n'roll behaviour towards their fans.
And it did this old glampunksters heart good to see 'Dolled' up teenagers dressed in 'Hanoi Rocks' tshirts amongst the audience.
The 'Voodoo' was crammed when 'Faster Pussycat' took to the stage, kicking straight into 'Cathouse', the energy levels went through the roof as chain smoking 'Taime Downe' lead the band through one classic sleezey tune after another. The set consisted of a cool mix of old and newer material (Don't Change That Song, Bathroom Wall, House Of Pain, Sex, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll etc) , plus one brand new song and a cracking cover of The Supersuckers 'Pretty Fucked Up'.
And have you ever heard a more nasty and poisonous lyric than 'Number one with a Bullet'?, yeah! this kitty kat still has claws (albeit coated in chipped black nail varnish).
'Faster Pussycat' gave it everything, in your face and up close and personal here tonight.
This gig will definitely go down as one of the best shows I've attended in a very long time.
Brilliant night and we've got 'Sylvain Sylvain'at the 'Empire' this weekend.
