City Hall Rocks Back feat: Steven VX, September Cross and others - live @ City Hall, Belfast, 03/08/13
What a glorious but blustery day to be playing live at a large scale outdoor show on the manicured lawns of Belfast City Hall, celebrating the talented youth of our city.
The sun is shining, and the people are relaxed and happy soaking up the ray's.
Kicking off the event in rockin style, it was 'Steven VX' who it has to be said was a bit daunted at first by the massive size of the stage. But he's been around long enough now doing his solo & VX band thing not to let some pre gig jitters get the better of him. His energetic akoustik punkabilly set was very well received, even though most of the attitude packed tunes he performed were probably unfamiliar to a majority of this audience.
'Third Degree' were up next and they certainly believe in jumping in at the deep end, as this was their very first gig. Good wee grungey sounding outfit, and I enjoyed their version of 'Baby Please don't go'. I'll make a point of catching them live again in the very near future.
I'd never heard of 'The Zach Whitefield Band' before today, but they sounded like they'd been around for while. It was obvious to see that this band were no beginners, their set of acoustic and electric originals reminded me a lot of 'INME', which in my book is no bad thing.
'VX' had played a previous 'Féile Unplugged' show earlier this year at the 'Voodoo' with thrash metallers 'September Cross', so we already knew how good former 'Monkhouse' & 'Thee Radicals' member 'Nick Jago' and the boys are. They can really play, and believe me these guy's can seriously shred.
So that was the end of the youth oriented first part of the show, all the young acts who performed stood up and showed what they were made off and did themselves proud.
Well done to the lot of you.
The second part of this free event was due to start after a short interval, 'Trad On The Lawn' was an all together more adult affair and featured two established acts, namely 'Cara Dillion' supported by 'The Damian O'Kane Band.
A big thank you goes out to Conall & all the Féile crew for putting on such a great event, you gave these young up and coming acts a day to remember.
