Stop Stop Start Again / Shock Treatment 21 / 3D Shark / The Groundlings / DJ's Terri Hooley & Tardis / special guests VX
@ Auntie Annies, Belfast, 16/02/13
When the 'VX' boys and me exited the Warzone, it was only intended to be a quick visit over the road to check out 'Stop Stop Start Again' who are friends and a band we all dig. We knew for sure we'd missed 'The Groundlings' and '3D Shark', but we all expected 'SSSA' to be already on stage when we arrived. But as we entered Auntie Annies 'Davy' and the boys from 'Shock Treatment 21' were still playing, and sounding pretty good too. We got chatting to a few familiar faces before the interval like 'Chappy (The Groundlings), Mo Lawrence, Jimbo Gillso, Brian Robinson, Billy McIllwaine' (Androids) plus the one and only 'Terri Hooley'.
There was absolutely no intention by 'VX' to try and hijack the gig or to upstage anyone, the band were still on a high after their earlier set. So it was one of those now or never moments and we decided to ask 'Stop Stop Start Again' if it would be alright with them if 'VX' knocked out a tune during the change over, and they kindly agreed to let the band play using their instruments (Thank you lads).
'VX' got up on stage and introduced themselves !!!!, Then proceeded to blast through their rendition of 'The Ramones' 24 carat crowd pleaser 'Blitzkrieg Bop', which went down really well with the audience, many of whom had never seen 'VX' live before. Jeez! the boys teen appeal even had them being cougared by some of the (erm!!) more mature ladies present, lol.
"The godfather of punk" made a short and humorous speech, then 'SSSA' took to the stage opening their set with 'Stop Stop Start Again' followed by 'Better Days'. And that was were we had to leave to return to the 'Warzone' for the headliners 'No Matter', which in one sense was a bummer as 'SSSA' were only starting to warm up and get into their groove, but we knew we'd see them live again pretty soon.
Three live appearances in a mad two days, this was a great weekend for a young band on the rise.
