The Defects - Revelator CD EP + DVD
Brand spanking new 4 track CD from The Defects featuring their first new song in over 25 years - courtesy of local label Punkerama Records.
The EP opens with that new song Revelator and what a fucking song it is too! Solid drumming, powerhouse guitars and Bucks unmistakable vocal kick this 80s UK style punk stomper well and truly into 2011. Nods to the UK Subs (at their very best) and The Ruts (especially on the dub section) along the way, only the Defects are equal to both, if not in fact - better! New recordings of two old favourites Guilty Conscience and Metal Walls follow and show just how tight an outfit this current Defects lineup has become. If you thought the original recordings of these 2 songs were good (and they were) then have a wee listen to these new versions! Last track on the EP is an extended dub version of the title track Revelator. Remember way back in the late 70's / early 80's when extended dub version B-sides were all the rage? Nobody did the whole dub / reggae-punk thing better than The Ruts (who incidentally are one of my all time favourite bands) - well this is on a par with anything The Ruts ever did!
It's hard to believe its now 30 years (yes 30 fucking years!!!! Scary isn't it?) since the Defects debut release but they are one of those bands who just get better and better with age. I honestly don't think there is a better punk band anywhere these days than this current lineup of the Defects. Seriously! Oh, before I forget - the CD comes with a bonus DVD of the band performing Revelator live at the Doghouse Studios and its feckin' awesome!
And - a limited edition 12" vinyl version of the EP will be out soon.
Get the CD from Dragon Records in Belfast or online from http://punkerama.webs.com/ The band will also be selling copies at forthcoming gigs.
