The Specials live @ Ulster Hall, Belfast, 05/05/13
What the hell is going on?
I've attended three gigs this weekend, each show has had no support act, and the stage lighting was poor to say the least at all of them.
In the case of last nights packed 'Specials' gig , it was a whopping £35.50p a skull, and 'Neville Staple' was no where to be seen, and his absence was very noticeable.
I mean with a ticket price that high , they could've at least managed a backdrop.
The Specials got off to a sprightly start, but around 35mins into the set rigor mortis was setting in and it felt as if all the energy had been sucked out of the Ulster Hall.
A majority of the crowd just stood around watching a band who looked to me as if they were going through the motions, and were probably as bored playing the same songs from their limited back catalogue tour after tour since they reformed back in 2008, as I was watching them perform the same old same old.
The show did pick up some momentum again with the likes of 'Ghost town' & 'Message to you Rudy'etc, but this performace was a pale shadow of their last Belfast gig during the 2011 'Belsonic' festival. That night they had the crowd jumping from beginning to end, and the sense of occasion was infectious. It was a fantastic gig.
The only thing that was infectious tonight, was the overwhelming feeling of anti climax.
Never mind 'More Specials', I could have easily done with less.
