Feile Unplugged: Midnight Transmission, VX, and others, live @ Voodoo, Belfast, 26/04/13
Tonights packed gig was the climax of a very successful three day series of 'Féile Unplugged' events, with each show intended to be used as a showcase / springboard for some of the best new talent around at the moment.
Genre was no barrier, Conall & the Féile crew (the organisers) did a sterling job, and tried their best to ensure that all the shows had as varied a line up of acts as possible, everyone was welcome.
Some of the acts who were performing tonight were an unknown quantity to me, while others like VX & Midnight Transmission are already pretty well established locally.
This evening we had a number of 'acoustic performers (Ryan McCann & Gavin Ferris), comedians (??), a dubstep dj (Gareth Woods) plus four very different sounding bands emanating from the local 'indie rock (Blinding Lights), thrash metal (September Cross), alternative /punk (VX), old school trad rock (Midnight Transmission)' scenes .
It was a eclectic mix of clashing styles, that worked surprisingly well together on the night.
And don't be fooled by the 'Unplugged' in the event header, because when you put a bill together like that, the last thing its going to be is a quiet night out.
There was a massive amount of electricity involved here, the meter must've been hemorrhaging pound coins.
It was a really good night, in an excellent venue.
Roll on 'Féile an Phobail 2013' in the summer.
