Man Over Bored*
Conor Ramage (vocals / guitar), Michael Borland (guitar / vocals), Ewen Friers (bass / vocals), Ethan Harman (drums).
Snotty young punk band from up around the north Antrim coast. In the summer of 2003, drummer Ethan Harman joined a wee band called the Neds who then morphed into Man Over Bored. M.O.B. started gigging in 2004 and played all over N. Ireland. They even managed a few gigs in R.O.I. and Scotland. Over the next few years the band played support to the likes of The Subhumans, Propagandhi, and The Anti-Nowhere League. They released a couple of excellent demo CD's (check out the song Ballintoy Punx - its a classic!), featured on a number of compilations and radio programmes, and in March 2006 M.O.B. performed live on television on the BBC N. Moral Support*
Andy McCarroll, (vocals / guitar / keyboards), James Davis (guitars), William Hilary (keyboards), Alan Gillespie (bass), Ian Sloan (drums).
Christian Punk band formed in the late 70's by well known singer / songwriter on the Christian folk / rock scene, Andy McCarroll. They were managed by ex Rudi manager Kyle Leitch also ran the Caroline Music record shop in Belfast's Anne Street. James Davis - We were probably closer to New Wave although influences included The Clash, Jam, Magazine, Buzzcocks, Boomtown Rats and early Police. I was a big fan of Joy Division and Siouxsie & The Banshees. McCarroll released two solo albums prior to forming Moral Support, 1975's Through Different Eyes Now on the Crumlin based D & A Records, and the 1978 Epitaph For A Rebel on Grapevine records, which was a local subsiduary of Christian record label Pilgrim Records. Moral Support gigged extensively all over Ireland: they were the biggest band on the Christian rock scene in Ireland in the late 70's / early 80's and were credited with introducing 'New Wave' to the Christian fraternity in the U.S.A. The band did make an impact at the Greenbelt Festival in England which in those days attracted crowds of twenty thousand people, and this would have opened the doors for the U.S. market - said Kyle Leitch. James Davis played guitar on a number of occasions with Belfast punk band The Lids, whose lead singer Geoff Shannon happened to be James’ brother-in-law. In 1979 Moral Support released their only 7" single Just Where It’s At Tonight c/w Sin on the Round Records label, and this was followed in 1980 by the Zionic Bonds album, released on the Belfast based Switch record label, which was situated in Donegal Square South in the city centre. The album was released the following year in America (and re-released years later on CD by GMI Music). The track Sin was included on an American compilation album The British Are Coming, released in 1983 which featured new Christian artists at the time. After the albums release, Bill Hilary left the band and they continued as a four-piece with McCarroll alternating between guitar and keyboards. They made their last live appearance at the Greenbelt Christian Arts Festival, England in 1983.
Kyle Leitch - In the end a few of the guys were ready to settle down so they didn't fully exploit the potential which was clearly evident.

Mr Nipples & The Dangleberries*
Darren (vocals), Marty (lead guitar), Kev (guitar), Joe D (bass), Joe McC (drums), Rotten Rod (backing vocals).
Formed way back in 1996 Mr Nipples were a big favourite on the Belfast drunk punk scene mixing a little ska with a huge dollop of UK'82 style hardcore. Their first gig wasn't until 1999 - suppoting Skint and Distortion at Giros - by which time original singer Mal had been replaced by Darren. Marty Riot then joined on lead guitar and when Joe McC left for personal reasons he was replaced by Fat Dan from the walking Abortions. The band released one demo plus a full length album Nipples Militia before packing it in around 2004. A double CD Stamp Out Straightedge featuring the demo, Nipples Militia and a live set from Giro's was also released. Ex members can be found plying their trade in other bands such as 1000 Drunken Nights, and The Violent Fuckwits.

Nauseators, The*
Ralph Malph (vocals), Alan Insane (guitar), Sam Thompson (bass), Dave Dilemna (drums).
Formed in 1978 around the Cavehill area of Belfast by well-known face on the local scene Alistair Whiteside. Whiteside was better known to all and sundry as 'Ralph Malph' due to his uncanny resemblance to to the character from the hit TV show Happy Days. The Nauseators rehearsed in a youth club known locally as the 'Old Farmhouse.' It was also there that they played their first few gigs before moving on to the dizzy heights of the Harp Bar. Their set consisted of self-penned songs such as Suicide, Football Hooligans, and Dead End Belfast and a few choice covers i.e. Borstal Breakout, Suzi Is A Headbanger and Pretty Vacant. But the band are best remembered for their hilarious cover of Travolta / Newton-Johns hit single Summer Nights from the movie Grease. The band only lasted about 18 months.

Nerdmore
Jarlath Cowan (guitar / vocals), Johnny Ryan (bass), Jourdan Steadman (drums).
Nerdmore began in Cookstown in early January 2013 as a one man recording project by Jarlath Cowan. However, after a few demo recordings and the break up of his previous band, it was time to get out and get playing again, so Johnny Ryan jumped in on bass and Jourdan Steadman sat in on drums. Since then they have been gigging frequently up and down the country and are almost constantly recording new music. Nerdmore play punk rock influenced by bands like The Ramones, Screeching Weasel, The Queers, The Riverdales and Dan Vapid.

Nerves, The*
Pat McCaul (guitar / vocals), Tommy McCaul (guitar / vocals), Conor Sweeney (bass), John McCaul (drums).
The McCaul brothers from Newry originally performed as a trio called The Mash. They were joined by bassist Colin Murphy in March 1980 and subsequently changed the band moniker to The Nerves. This New Wave pop band went on to play several gigs in their home town and across the border in Dundalk, as well as the odd gig in Belfast and Dublin. Murphy left and was replaced on bass by Conor Sweeney. The new line-up recorded a demo in Setanta Studios, a copy of which they left in the Good Vibrations record shop in Belfast. When Terri Hooley and his radio presenter friend Davy Sims listened to the tape they were impressed enough to ask the band if they'd like to record an album. The Nerves went back to Setanta Studios and recorded 12 songs. Meanwhile, Hooley and Sims entered the band in a UK Battle Of The Bands competition to give them experience of playing to larger audiences. The Nerves took part in the local heat at the Ulster Hall, Belfast, and won! They went on to compete at the national UK final in February 1981. The Nerves song Back Street Mafia was included on the 'Battle Of The Bands' compilation LP released by RCA that same year. A 15 date Irish tour was scheduled and the album 'Notre Demo' came out on the Good Vibrations label. There were high hopes that The Nerves would emulate the success of the Undertones, but, although the album was well received, it just didn't happen for them.

Nimnules, The*
Paul Kerr (guitar / vocals), Davy Campbell (drums), Ronnie Waters (bass / vocals).
The Nimnules, from Dungannon, existed from 1978-1980. The following info was sent in by Paul Kerr - We never recorded anything (other than a live tape that has since gone awol) but we did play the Harp Bar once (Big Tommy McAuley helpfully acting as roadie) and were on a billing with The Outcasts when they played Dungannon (1979???). That was billed in the local press, The Tyrone Courier, as "Dungannon's First Punk Concert". Speaking to Martin Cowan after we played he said we were "fucking horrible". We pretty much were but that didn't matter. We wrote all our own stuff but included a cover of Gang of Four's "Armalite Rifle". We were all over the map music wise - scratchy, atonal, dirgy - but played our wee hearts out.

One Fat Antelope
Jonathan Getty (vocals), David Jones (guitar), Stephen Bloomer (guitar), Jim Lewis (bass), Michael Getty (drums).
O.F.A. was formed by Michael “Drummer” Getty and Stephen Bloomer in Coalisland around 1979/80. The original lineup was Drummer (drums), Jim Lewis (bass) and Stephen Bloomer (gtr). They were soon joined by Michael’s brother Jonathan (JJ) on vocals plus David Jones on guitar. They started out doing original material from the start but also included a few covers: The Kinks’ “All Day And All of The Night”, The Clash’s “Garageland” and The Jam’s “A Bomb in Wardour Street”. Whereas punk definitely was the catalyst for the feeling of ‘we can do this as well’ you’d be hard pressed to really call OFA a punk band. JJ was as much enamoured of The Beatles than he was of the Sex Pistols and as he became the primary songwriter that really informed OFA’s aesthetic. The punkiness of approach in the beginning was more to do with the musical limitations of the band more than anything else. They were maybe a lot more garage/psych oriented than the mainstream punk bands around at that time. Paul Kerr of Dungannon band The Nimnules joined on guitar after the departure of Jones and Lewis, with Bloomer moving to bass duties. The band relocated to Belfast in 1981, recorded a demo (which has long since vanished), recruited Paul 'Dill' Delaney (ex The Basics) on bass, and played a number of gigs in places such as Jules, The Orpheus, and Queen's Speakeasy. The next couple of years saw a few more lineup changes and a slight change in musical direction until OFA finally split around 1985 / 86. Read Paul Kerr's full account of the band here ....
Fast forward to November 2013 - JJ, Drummer, Stephen, Paul T and Paul Kerr all got together again for a day in Rinky Dink rehearsal studios in Belfast – their first time together in a room for over 27 years. One Fat Antelope are looking to play more/create more together in 2014.

Organ Grinders, The
Sam Grinder (Vocals / Rythm Guitar), BB Grinder (Lead Guitar), Gus Grinder (Bass), Roy Organson (Drums).
The Organ Grinders formed in April 2010, from the ashes of 2 defunct bands: Original 1977 punk rockers Control Zone, and hard rockin dudes The Limiters. Control Zone had reformed briefly in 2008, but realised after numerous lineup changes that they weren't, after all, that keen to be together in the same room again. Sam Craig (brother of Gus Craig) had been drafted in to replace the original vocalist, Stephen Stewart, now living in Sydney. Control Zone played their final gig at lavery's Bunker in January 2010. Sam and Gus then found Roy Crooks and Brian Beattie from The Limiters, and played their deut gig at "Ownies" - The Joymount Arms, Carrickfergus, in early May 2010. The Organ Grinders play a relentless set of punk classics from the Clash, Pistols, Heartbreakers, and, er, Nancy Sinatra. Add to the mix their own venomous original material, and anything else that takes their fancy, and you have the makings of a unique night out.

Nesbitt was later replaced on guitar by Garth Craig. The Peasants released one 7" - the now highly collectible Here She Comes EP on Homestead Records in 1981. Highlights of the bands short career were suport slots with The Jam and Q Tips at university balls in Nottingham and Leicester. When the band split Mike Edgar joined Good Vibes signing Cruella De Ville. Edgar went on to become Head Of Entertainment at BBC N. Ireland.

Pink Turds In Space*
Shane (vocals), Siobhan (guitar), Marty (guitar), Dee (bass), Chuck (drums).
This illustriously named hardcore band from Belfast formed in 1985. Influenced by the likes of Disorder and Chaos UK. Drummer Chuck (Haveron, RIP) had previously been in the bands Scum and Asylum whilst Siobhan (RIP) had been in Anathema. PTIS began as a 4 piece but then Marty was recruited after his band Toxic Waste split. Within weeks they were playing with AYS, Stalag 17 and Conflict at the Electric Ballroom in Camden London. Siobhan left soon after that gig and went on to sing with Sledgehammer. The band recorded 3 demo's and part way through the 3rd, in 1988, Shane (RIP) quit and was later replaced on vocals by Annie. That 3rd demo was released as the Greatest Shits LP in 1989. Also in '89, the band toured England and played with the likes of Extreme Noise Terror, and Dr & The Crippens. Chuck then left and was replaced by Crispo (previously of The Crude And The Snyde). 1989 also saw the band appear on a split LP with Sedition and in 1990 a split single with Charred Remains was released. PTIS split later that year. If you get the chance, listen to Pink Turds cover of The Undertones Teenage Kicks - its fxxxing awesome!

Protex
Aidan Murtagh (guitar/vocals), David McMaster (guitar/vocals), Paul Maxwell (bass/vocals), Owen McFadden (drums).
Excellent pop-punk band formed in Belfast, 1977 by ex-members of The Incredibly Boring Band. Originally called Protex Blue, the band taking their name from the Clash song. Released one single (the brilliant Don't Ring Me Up) on Good Vibrations before signing to Polydor and releasing several more singles. John T. Davis filmed the band in New York 1980 for the film Protex Hurrah (aka Sham Rock). They also recorded a full length album for Polydor which was never released. The band called it a day in 1981. Many years later that elusive Polydor album Strange Obsessions was finally released by New York label Sing Sing Records.
Protex reformed in 2012 and have played Rebellion Festival, Harp Bar Reunion, plus a number of other gigs at home and abroad. The band will be playing several dates in Japan in 2013.

Rhesus Negative*
Pat Rafferty (vocals), Lewis (guitar), George Moonagh (guitar), Jeff Hughes (bass), Jim Johnston (drums).
Rhesus Negative were a highly popular five piece band from Belfast. They were once billed at the Harp Bar as 'Regular New Roxy Rockers' due to the vast number of times the band played that venue. (The Harp Bar had been dubbed 'The New Roxy' by some!). The Harp Bar punters were treated to frenetic sets consisting of original songs such as No Reason, My Baby Left Me, Now and Then, Contact Radiation, Playschool, and Careless Talk as well as the odd crowd-pleaser like the Heartbreakers Born To Lose. Filmmaker John T. Davis captured the band performing Love In Vein live at the Harp Bar on 23/11/1978 and the resulting footage was used in the film Shell Shock Rock. In 1979 two songs, Lost Touch and Struggle were recorded for a proposed single on the Good Vibrations record label, but sadly these tracks still remain unreleased. Rhesus Negative split soon after. Bass player Hughes had previously been in the legendary, but somewhat mysterious, band Muff Diving Spiders!

Rudi*
Brian Young (guitar/ vocals), Ronnie Matthews (bass/ vocals), Graham Marshall (drums),
Belfast's first punk band (and for many the best of them all!) originally formed in late 1975. First band to release a record on the legendary Good Vibrations label - the classic 'Big Time' single. After a couple more releases on Good Vibrations the band signed to Jamming Records and released 2 further singles. Rudi folded in 1982 after supporting The Jam on their Trans Global Unity Express Tour. Young, Matthews and Marshall (with a couple of new additions) carried on for a while as a punk funk group Station Superheaven. This venture was shortlived and Superheaven split in 1984. Brian Young continues performing today with his punked up rockabilly combo The Sabrejets and occasional Belfast punk supergroup Shame Academy. Rudi photos

Allan Clarke (vocals), Paul Burgess (drums), Jackie Forgie (guitar), Tom Coulter (bass).

Original singer Ivan Kelly left to join Sunderland punks The Wall and was replaced by Allan Clarke. Made their vinyl debut in 1979 with the 'One By One' EP on the Good Vibrations label. Went on to release a number of singles and albums on labels such as Kabuki, Kasper, and Flicknife. Sabrejets, The
Brian Young (guitar / vocals), Liam Killen (guitar / backing vocals), Bill Johnston (bass / backing vocals), Laurence McKeown (drums).
Punked-up rockabilly band from Belfast fronted by Brian Young who served his time in Belfast's first (and finest) punk band Rudi. The self-styled 'Greaser Kings' have been rippin'-it-up for well over a decade now and have built up a loyal following at home and abroad. The Sabrejets have appeared on numerous compilations as well as releasing several albums of their own - the most recent being the excellent Sin-Sational on Raucous Records. The band's stripped down, bare-knuckle rock'n'roll appeals not only to teds and rockabillies but also to punks, skins, bikers, herberts and straights!

Scorched Earth*
Cormac O'Briain (vocals), Tina Begley (vocals), Pete O'Hagan (guitar), Stevie McKeever (bass), Bri McSwiggan (drums).
Scorched Earth were once desribed by John Peel as the fastest band in Ireland and they certainly went for the hard core end of punk. They could have been described as anarchists that loved to party very hard, much to the dismay of some of the more serious anarchists on the scene at the time.
Their line up was Cormac 'Buzz' Ó Briain on vocals, Tina Begley also Vocals, Sprusty Vocals, Fra Gunn Vocals and guitar. Fra and sprusty left leaving Tina and Buzz to carry on. On bass was Stevie 'Glutton' Mc Keever, on guitar Pete 'Metal' O Hagan and on drums was Bri Mc Swiggan.
The band was renowned for their very exciting performances and very hard core punk rock . Their followers usually went nuts anytime they played with a broken neck being recorded as a casualty from jumping off the balcony in the art college. Scorched Earth made one recording for a hunt saboteurs benefit album but was never finished, the master tapes are in the possession of warzone collective . They were around in the early 80's, not sure of the year, it was foggy then. The bands song 'System' became well known in punk rock circles, as the riff from it was used to indicate a friend at the door. Scorched Earth had one tour of England with Pink Turds in Space. The band broke up due to pregnancy, Irish traditional music, reggae, sectarian stabbings, mental health issues, thespian activities and drugs. The band remain firm friends to this day but are scattered around the globe. Sprusty has not been seen in years.

Sect, The*
Jim Walker (guitar / vocals), John Cassidy (bass / vocals), 'Min' McCann (drums).
This Derry trio formed in 1979. Early sets consisted mainly of Jam covers tho' the band were as much influenced by the Sex Pistols and The Clash. They dropped the covers in favour of their own material and built up a solid reputation in their home city. The Sect recorded a number of demos at the studios of Colm Arbuckle and The Undertones. They recorded a single Private Eye / This Is Your Life for Shoestring Records but it was never released. A radio session was recorded for the Mike Read Show and broadcast on BBC Radio 1. The band appeared on television - on the Derry edition of the BBC youth series Something Else and also on the Benson & Hedges Entertainer Competition programme after a second guitarist, Seamus Cassidy (ex Dick Tracy & The Green Disaster) was recruited. When The Sect folded in 1983 Jim Walker formed Past Imperfect and then Cast Of Thousands in 1984 with whom he had moderate success in the UK. Today, Walker and Cassidy can be found performing in the Jaywalkers.

Setz, The*
Peter Gamble (vocals), Tony Scott (guitar), Richard Collett (bass), Ian Gault (drums).
The Setz were formed in Belfast in 1978 and played a mix of original material and covers in the New Wave genre. They aimed to fuse the energy and attitude of punk with the songwriting values and musicianship of traditional rock. Originals songs including Let Me Down Easy and Things That Go Bump In The Night were interspersed by covers of songs by the likes of The Cars and The Police. They played all the regular venues in Belfast at the time such as The Pound and The Harp and also supported several major acts like The Ramones and The Skids and even Horslips! They also played Dublin and regularly gigged on the North Coast at venues such as Chesters, Kellys and Spuds.
A second guitarist, Marty Williamson, was recruited and he later went on to join Psychedlic Furs. In 1981 the band dropped the punky stuff and changed their name to Silent Running. They enjoyed a small modicum of success, signing first to EMI Records then to Atlantic in the US. Split up in 1990 after several tours and album releases.

Singles, The*
Barry Tipping (guitar / vocals), Martin McClatchey (bass / vocals), Colin 'Macker' McMullan (drums).
The Singles were a 3 piece powerpop combo from the Portadown / Lurgan area. They released one single, the brilliant T.V. Deceives c/w Send For Sorrow on George Doherty's Mint label in 1981. In more recent times, Low Down Kids, a specialist collectors label based in Holland, managed to obtain other recordings by the band. This resulted in the Send For The Singles album - a limited edition release of just 100 copies. After The Singles split McClatchey started up his own recording studio and formed the band Sontiche. Tipping and McMullan formed the synth-pop band Shadow Talk who had a minor hit with the Magnet Records single People Watching People in 1983. Today, McMullan plays in the Desert Seeds.

Skum*
Paul 'Spike' Convery (vocals), Petesy Burns (guitar), Cec Patton (bass), Chuck Haveron (drums).
Short-lived Belfast band formed in 1980. They played mostly Sex Pistols covers plus a few self-penned originals which included Fornicate With You and Hate You. Hilary Midgely took over on bass when Cec Patton quit the band. One practice session in Spike’s mum’s garage resulted in a visit from the police who told Skum to turn down the noise. The band managed to put a set together and played a few gigs in the likes of the Manhattan, the Pound, Heinz's and the Clubhouse before calling it quits. Petesy went on to form Stalag 17, Hilary later sang with Sledgehammer, and Chuck and Spike both did stints with Asylum.

A 'covers' band from Derry formed in early 1978 by John Cassidy and Gerry McCandless. Gerry McCandless went on to form The Moondogs and when Small Talk split Cassidy and Walker joined Crafty Jack before forming The Sect.

Speed*
Paul West (vocals), Crow (guitar), Peege (guitar), Jimmy (bass), Ger (drums).
Portadown based band formed by Alan Crozier (Crow) and Gary Cassidy when their previous band Zip split in 1976. They were joined by Paul Grant (Peege) and James Black. More pub rock than punk rock, the band went through a number of line-up changes before recording their one and only single - Big City c/w All Day And All Of The Night (the Kinks). By this stage Paul West had taken over vocal duties from Crow who then concentrated on guitar. Cassidy and Grant had been replaced by Jimmy on bass and Ger on drums. Big City was the first release on the newly formed It Records label and was the first independent single to be released in Northern Ireland in 1977. Speed went on to acquire an extra guitarist by the name of Rodney and this line-up went on to record a second single for It Records under a new name - Midnite Cruiser. The band split soon after with Paul West (real name Paul Maxwell) going on to join The Tearjerkers.

Stage B*
Charlie Reilly (vocals), Dessie Potter (guitar / vocals), Colin Fletcher (bass), Owen Howell (drums).
Formed in 1978 from the ashes of Belfast punk band The Batteries. Heavily influenced by early Adam & the Ants and Siouxsie & the Banshees, Stage B's sound can only be described as 'gothic punk.' Moving away from the strict 3 chord punk of The Batteries the band proved to be one of the more innovative outfits on the early Belfast scene. They released one single on Shock Rock Records and appeared on the Belfast compilation LP. Supported Siouxsie & the Banshees and Toyah in Belfast. Split up around 81/82. Fletch now plays in Stop Stop Start Again and Dessie Potter treads an even darker path with Stiltwalkers.
A full Stage B biography and discography features in the book 'It Makes You Want To Spit' (Reekus 2003)
Stop! Stop! Start Again (featuring Fletch from Stage B) recently released "The Vipers - Sounds of Confusion" CD (limited to 50 copies) containing rerecordings of 3 Stage B songs. The feedback has been so good that Time to Be Proud are considering issuing an album of Stage B songs in the near future.

Stalag 17*
Tul (vocals), TC (guitar), Petesy Burns (bass), Mickey McKenna (drums).
Belfast anarcho-punk band formed in 1980 by ex members of two other punk bands, Stillborn and Maimed. After several gigs in and around Belfast the band recorded their first demo and supported the likes of Poison Girls and Crass in the Anarchy Centre. Around 1981 the band effectively split in two. Petesy (vocals / bass) and Mickey (drums) carried on as Stalag 17 and were joined on guitar by Gaskey. This new line-up, armed with a new set, made their debut in the Manhattan Bar. Soon after, Petesy handed over bass duties to Joe Carey so he could concentrate on singing. The band then began to establish associations with stalwarts of the anarcho-punk scene that began to tour Belfast such as Conflict, The Subhumans and Disorder. Conflict offered Stalag 17 a place on the Mortarhate compilation We Don't Want Your Fucking War, and the interest created by that compilation led to a split 12" with Toxic Waste, The Truth Will Be Heard. In 1984/85 the band left for an ill-fated seven-date tour of mainland Britain, beginning in Edinburgh where they supported the later to be famous Primal Scream and Shop Assistants. During this tour many of the gigs were badly organized and over half were cancelled. During the rest of 1985 the band recorded a track for the Words Of Warning label alongside Oi Polloi and then in 1986 spent a more successful three-week tour in Europe. The band recorded two more demos (And All The Birdies Sang Fuck This For A Lark and Erection 87) as well as another split album with Toxic Waste. In 1987 the band played several gigs in Scotland, however general dissatisfaction within the band meant the gigs would be their last. The demo 17 From 17 was released after the bands demise. Petesy was later to play in FUAL and join Northern Irish 'Punk Supergroup' Shame Academy. In 2008 Petesy, Mickey and Joe formed a new band A-Political. And in 2010 they reformed Stalag 17 to support Steve Ignorant when he brought his Last Supper tour to Belfast. Petesy can also be found playing in the reformed Outcasts.

Steven VX
When you take a look at Steven VX's (aka Steven Donnelly) impressive rock n'roll CV, its hard to believe that its only the matter of a few weeks since he turned 20 years old. This kid has been a fixture on the local music scene as a fan, band lead guitarist / frontman, occasional film participant (Good Vibrations, Even Gods etc) and solo performer for a very long time. And apart from his extensive songwriting and recording experience, by the end of this summer he'll have played over 50 gigs in only the past 2 years, with the majority of these shows as an electric / acoustic 'punkrockabilly' solo act, and including a number of much coveted high profile support slots (Penetration, John Otway, 999, XSLF, Culture Shock, Ice Age, etc).
2014 is already shaping up to be possibly his best year to date, with live shows in London, Dublin and NI (including the BBA / Feile festivals) already confirmed. Some very exciting yet to be announced (Hush! Hush!) outside projects are also going through the planning stage at present, and the recording of his highly anticipated debut album is at an advanced stage. A fully loaded 'Soundcloud' page is currently being compiled, and will be available to everyone very soon!. Keep an eye on this boy!

Stoneage Roister*
Mark Gordon (Vocals) Rab Harron (Guitars) Bobby Swann (Guitars) Martin Scott (Bass) Simon Burns (Drums)
Part of the Limelight, Penny Farthing, Duke of York crowd, Stoneage Roister decided in the early 90's that they could do this as well as everyone else. It turned out they couldn't but they tried. Early gigs were chaotic, the drink was flowing and the audiences generally got entertained although sometimes not musically. They were helped by the support of Johnny Hero in particular, regularly releasing demos which he played on his show. These lead in turn to some noteable support slots, Sultans of Ping, Swervedriver, Chaos UK among the many. The band spent the last few years playing punk covers often on the same bill as offshoot Barney, but as with everything, time moved on and they called it quits around 95.

Strike*
Mark Nixon (vocals), Noel Rafferty (guitar), Paul Kenny (guitar), Laurence Sprott (bass), Davy Johnston (drums).
Belfast band formed in the late 70's. More powerpop / new wave than punk Strike's influences ranged from the Beatles to Dr Feelgood to SLF to The Cars. Released one single Radio Songs c/w Teenage Rebel on the Shock Rock label in 1980. The band toured Ireland to promote the single, the highlight of the tour being support to the Boomtown Rats at the Ulster Hall. A&M Records were interested in signing Strike but Mark Nixon and Davy Johnston quit the band after an argument and A&M lost interest. The remaining members recruited female vocalist Lesley Whitten and new drummer Steven Drake. This new lineup contributed the tracks Running Past and a reworked version of Teenage Rebel to Shock Rock's compilation album Belfast. By this time the band had been moving in a different direction and including more and more covers by the likes of The Pretenders and The Tourists in their set. In 2010 New York label Sing Sing Records reissued Strikes only single due to interest and demand from collectors worldwide.

Subculture*
Gavin Wright (vocals), John Lowry (guitar), Chris Nesbitt (bass), Henry Gribben (drums).
Formed in 1981 by four bored teenagers from the Knock area of east Belfast. Gavin was friendly with Defects singer 'Buck' Murdoch and this led to Subculture getting their first gig as support to the Defects at St Columba's Church Hall on Belfast's Kings Road. Although their set consisted solely of cover versions of well known punk songs such as - Teenage Kicks, White Riot, Smash It Up, and Complete Control - the band went down pretty well with the punters. Shortly after this Gavin introduced the rest of the band to Buck's brother Gary Murdoch. Impressed by Gary's drumming skills the decision was made to install him as drummer and so Henry was ousted from the group. Another support slot with the Defects at the Pound in Belfast proved to be Subculture's last gig. Gavin decided the band thing wasn't for him so he quit. He later went on to produce the Culture fanzine. Fred wasn't really into punk at all so Fred was dismissed and Subculture folded. However, Chris and Gary wished to continue so they recruited new singer Alan Graham and Roy McAllister was brought in on guitar. This new lineup was christened Rabies! (see under Rabies).

Suburbanites*
Titch Rafferty (vocals), Sid McEvoy (guitar), Sid McManus (Bass) and Davie Rafferty (drums).
Originally called Impact, they formed in 83; Titch Rafferty (vocals), Ramy Smith (guitar), Hugh McKenna (Bass) and Phely Lundy (drums). Covered tracks from Defects, Outcasts, Ramones, Ruefrex and SLF. Played a gig in the Whiterock Leisure centre with Re'bel and also played on the roof of Newry Arts Centre which led to the resignation of the head of the Arts Council. The band split up in 84 for about five minutes, which led to the Suburbanites forming with Titch Rafferty (vocals), Sid McEvoy (guitar), Sid McManus (Bass) and Davie Rafferty (drums); playing covers by The Clash, Defects, Ramones, Damned, Outcasts and others. Recorded a demo with three of their own songs which disappeared somewhere. Suburbanites featured on the BBC youth programme Channel One - they can be seen performing the song Nuclear Deals and snippets of two other songs Leave Your Walls Bare and Sands Of Time. Recorded a track for a tape that Shane from Pink Turds in Space ( who was a very good friend of theirs in the early 80’s R.I.P) was putting together. In 85 P.T.I.S. played with the Suburbanites in an abandoned quarry just outside Newry which was cut short by a raid from the R.U.C. The band gigged around Newry, Armagh and Dundalk. The band took a hiatus when Titch went to England. When he returned home in 1990 the band re-emerged under a new name - The Scrotes. The band still continue to play to this day at mostly charity events.

Suss, The*
Sam Coleman (vocals), Simon Thomson (guitar), Keith Keenan (bass), Richard Pierce (drums).
The Suss were formed in 1980 by Simon Thomson after Wardance imploded Their initial vocalist, Ronan Kelly, was sacked for going on holiday and was replaced by Pierce. Underpinned by Pierce’s powerful drumming, they had a strong Joy Division flavour (this was quite acceptable at the time) and regular gigs in clubs such as the Orpheus, Winkers and Jules rendered them a competent live act. They were less successful in the studio, however, and before they could produce a demo that did them justice the world had, probably not unreasonably, decided that one Joy Division was enough. Only Thomson persisted in the music business and gave it his best shot yet when joined by Paddy Fitzsimmons to form the contemporary sounding (well for the 80’s anyway) funksters Rhythm Method.
